Girls night out, means i can have a boy night in (yes, lack of plural means that my rival is off in Singapore romancing). Ill thrown some epoxy on the tank leak so i can have a ride tomorrow to re-kindle the spirit. The ambient temp has dropped from 4000c to a respectable 35c and i can think again. Thanks to some Bintang besar, sent tank dimensions off to a builder, see what they come up with. Ill repair tank and show the benkgal las around the corner and compare their thoughts on repair of old tank besok.

The progression of the morning was well and truly offset by the mid morning regression today. I did at one point consider dropping the bike in the pool. Finally decided not to spend any more hours looking for the right front wheel bushes. Found a suitable seal and made the bushes instead. Got the wheel aligned, but couldn't get it to come together and work smoothly. Either the forks bound up, or the alignment twisted. Arghhh. Another day, ill get it. Brakes working well though. Took the bike out to run it, until.... First problem, key missing. They key which was previously in the ignition (a backyard undertank key switch) was missing. Couldn't find it anywhere. Hotwired it, too easily which got me thinking about wiring and security. Went and found a RX king contact key to rectify the problem. Didn't fit, cheap thai imitation part. Had to modify. Then didn't work, had to repair it out of the box. Actually looks reasonable quality, longevity should be fine now. Will likely be able to mock up a steering lock now too. Int he meantime i hotwired with a alligator clip. Got the ignition working, then flicked the fuel on to run the bike. Fuel cock snapped. Opened it with pliers. Done. Then the feed pipe snapped. Off to buy a new one. Ok, ready to go. While the tank was off rewiring the hotwire, i noticed a leak. Now, do i repair or get a custom one made? Ill measure it up. Centre stand was fouling on the rear wheel, so it was removed. Then had a pretty serious lean on the side stand. I might steal Az's stand of the GL Pro. Looks the right length. While i was looking into it i found a GL 100 foot step to replace the old snapped and welded one on my bike. Hope it fits. Didn't have the heart to try today. Fiddled around some more, then noticed a strange electrical problem on the kawasaki. Put a new battery in and repaired a broken indicator. To add to the frustration, this is the second time i have written this post. Deep breath....
With just enough energy to fiddle around in the shed, i started to modify a speedo gearbox to fit the shocks. Still struggling to get the fork/axle spacing right. Also, took Az for a drive to get his tyres and rims spoked. He was commenting on how good the broomstick bars on the Honda CB450 in the "blog of inspiration". He said he was keen to get some. So, just to stir him, i found a broken metal broom handle (i keep lots of things... just in case) cut it down and fit it up. I'm pretty sure he hasn't noticed yet, even though he has been in the shed a few times. Lets see how long it takes him to notice....
A sweaty greasy flu, and sinuses that feel like they have pineapples stuck in them have hindered progress. Best i can do today is throw an eye over Az's bike, and help him with his hub frustrations. Come on medication. Kick in!
Front brakes fit well, rotor aligns well with the caliper. The spacers i have for the front wheel are not the correct length on either the left or right side. As soon as i find the right spacers, ill be able to roll it out. Might even do a test ride with a pillow strapped to the seat. Just to see if its feeling smoother...
__ Just for a test, the front wheel fitted, floating on the front axle. No spacers or alignment yet, as i still need to find a few front axle parts. The lines of the bike look good, i am happy with the length of the front forks from the RX king. Things seem to be coming along well.
New set of RX king brakes. Less than 300,000rp for the set. Master cyl, rotor and caliper. Ill find some stainless bolts and have a fit up. New RX king disc rotor ready to go, the gold is a bit off, but ill paint when i know it all fits and works. Same story with the new Caliper.
_Found some Front wheel gear. Chunky tyre, 100,80,17 and a 2.15inch front aluminium rim. Getting that spoked onto the RX King front hub today.
Swingarm bushes are giving me a little hassle. Since removal of the arm and welding they might have melted a bit. Alignment of the swingarm seems a little off, almost twisting the rear wheel out of vertical alignment. It will do for now, but new bushes should fix the problem. I had trouble finding new bushes, but eventually did. Ill put them in before the final paint and fit.
Rear wheel fits well now, and adjusters work properly. Chain tensioners working as they should, and brakes adjusted. _ |
Honda CG
So, the modif-off battle is on. I have a bit of a head start with this one, as i got the bike before Arran. Actually, he saw how cool it was and then decided to find one himself. 1979, pretty bad shape, but running and riding. Ill keep the updates coming. Archives
